How to Read Governance
Interpreting governance signals on PerfectDocRoot®
Purpose of This Page
Governance signals are designed to be read, not reacted to.
This page explains how to interpret the governance information you may encounter across PerfectDocRoot, including indicators related to change, review status, and drift.
The goal is to help you understand what the signals are telling you — and just as importantly, what they are not.
Start With the Right Posture
Governance on PerfectDocRoot is observational.
Signals are meant to:
- Provide context
- Surface change
- Support understanding
They are not instructions, warnings, or judgments.
If a signal prompts curiosity rather than urgency, it is working as intended.
Reading Drift Signals
Drift indicates that content has changed relative to a previously reviewed state.
When you see a drift indicator, it means:
- The current version differs from what was last reviewed
- The difference may be small or significant
- No conclusion has been drawn automatically
Drift is simply a comparison.
Drift does not mean:
- The content is wrong
- The content has degraded in quality
- Action is required
Understanding Severity Classifications
Severity classifications provide a rough sense of scale, not importance.
They help answer the question: “How much has this changed?”
Severity suggests:
- Attention level
- Degree of divergence
- Review priority (contextual)
A higher severity indicates more difference, not more danger.
Severity does not suggest:
- Risk
- Correctness
- Urgency
- Impact
Interpreting Review Status
A reviewed state means:
- A human examined the content
- A decision was recorded
- The state was accepted at that point in time
Review provides context — nothing more.
A reviewed state does not mean:
- The content is endorsed
- The content is correct
- The content is final
Reading Badges and Labels
Badges summarize governance state at a glance.
They are designed to:
- Reduce cognitive load
- Offer quick orientation
- Invite deeper inspection if needed
Badges should be read as descriptive, not evaluative.
If you want details, badges are an entry point — not a conclusion.
Governance Profiles Matter
Governance profiles influence how signals are generated and interpreted.
Different profiles may:
- Apply different thresholds
- Classify drift differently
- Encourage different review behavior
When interpreting signals, always consider the profile context in which they were generated.
Governance and Editorial Content
Many pages on PerfectDocRoot are editorial or exploratory.
Governance does not transform editorial content into guidance, nor does it turn signals into conclusions.
Editorial judgment remains with the reader.
Governance exists to support awareness, not direction.
When Governance Is Most Useful
Governance is particularly helpful when:
- Content has evolved over time
- You want to understand review history
- You’re comparing versions
Understanding this boundary prevents misreading.
Governance is less useful when:
- You are seeking definitive answers
- You expect validation or approval
If Something Feels Unclear
Confusion is itself a signal.
If governance information raises questions such as:
- “What should I do with this?”
- “Is this telling me something is wrong?”
That usually indicates a need for interpretation, not action.
Governance invites thought, not response.
